WHAT EXACTLY CAN I DO WITH iMIDIPatchbay?
As a keyboard player, you most probably know about splitting and layering sounds. While this can be done relatively easy on professional keyboards, it becomes more complex if your gear consists of multiple keyboards and sound expanders. iMIDIPatchbay makes building such configurations a lot easier than it has ever been before.

After connecting your keyboards and other MIDI devices to the iPad, you can easily create split zones and assign sounds of your MIDI devices to them. Its also possible to route the MIDI data to other apps if they have a virtual MIDI port. Furthermore, you can filter out controllers which is great if you want e.g. pitch bend or sustain to affect only a subset of the active sounds.

WHAT DO I NEED TO GET STARTED?
You need a CoreMIDI interface to connect your keyboards and sound expanders to the iPad.

Pros and cons of iMIDIPatchbay app for iPhone and iPad

iMIDIPatchbay app good for

Im very happy with this app. I have been looking for a simple iPad based patchbay to allow me to control multiple keyboard patches on the fly - while still having charts open. Though I typically memorize music, having the charts link to the various keyboards is a very helpful feature for newer songs or just to help a lead vocalist who might forget a section (it happens to the best and its nice to have someone in the band assist). The app offers so much more; however, and I have added more patches to my songs where I was previously limited by the keyboard splits. Next, I will be connecting the the app to some soft synth apps for even more functionality. Terrific product! I also love the ability to use my existing Yamaha Performances in the app as all custom parameters remain as programmed when used through iMIDIPatchbay. For beginners, there arent enough clear step by step directions. The tutorial videos are good, but not as detailed as a beginner would need. Heres a tip: if your keyboards have USB to Host MIDI outputs, you can simply connect multiple keyboards directly into your iPad by using a multi-USB adapter and the Apple Lightning to USB Camera adapter. iMIDIPatchbay is a great product.
This is all I need to build my sounds in the same way as I do on my Nord Stage keyboard, but with a wider choice of synths. Todays iPad with A6X CPU already allows a few nice synths to run simultaneously, I decided to break my wallet and give this modern music rig a try and end up with something I could not imagine for that price. Great App. Thx.
A perfect tool for musicians who employ and connect multiple keyboards and/or other midi devices. Simple to use, easy to configure even for Midi beginners like me. Users of keyboards of the Nord family will enjoy the design, the look and feel which is just as intuitive as a Nord keyboard. I use iMIDIPatchbay together with Setlistmaker. Now, I am able to change the leadsheet, switch the programme on my Nord Stage, even transpose programme-specific in half-tone steps at the same time. So I was able to upgrade my old keyboard which lacks the programme-specific transpose function with this piece of software. The price may look high but it is worth every cent for users looking for this special Midi functionality. The programmer was extremely helpful responding quickly to any question I had.
iMiIDIPatch bay is a very versitaile tool for any keyboarder considering to integrate an iPad in his live keyboard setup. With the decent performance of the latest iPads and a multitude of excellent softsynths availbe, this has become a very attractive option. The program has an excellent look and feel, you can see that a lot of thought has been put in the usability on stage. The price looks a bit steep for the iPad platform, so I was a bit reluctant at first, but in the end this was money well spent, worth every $ / €.
It turns my live setup of 3 Keyboards plus Multi effect into a much more versatile and easy to use combination. Its such an improvement to be able to change all four devices with one click. Also beeing able to work with splitzones and forwarding notes, sustain and ccs is great. I only have one last request. It would be of great benefit to set user defined CCs on the knobs.
I use iMIDIPatchbay as a simple to use tool for my tour rig. It’s perfect for splitting and layering different kinds of keys and modules without the cryptic language some old MIDI patchbays use. It never let me down, neither in the rehearsal room, nor on stage and with version 1.4 it supports pdfs for displaying sheets - well done! For all keyboard players who work with a specialized setup (without workstation) this is the way to go to create complex settings with an easy to use interface. With one click it changes my whole setup and the setlist feature makes it easy to follow the show without the use of hand written setlists. It seems to be quite pricy, but it’s worth every cent and the developer responds fast, if you have any question or feature request.

Some bad moments

This app has a great look and, based upon YouTube tutorials seems like it would be great to use. Unfortunately Im having setup difficulties and the developer(s) cannot be reached to solicit help. Have reached out through repeated emails and on Facebook and so far radio silence. To my knowledge theres no operators manual, per se, and no place online to ask for help. With the upgrades Im into this app for almost 50 bucks - have not gotten any real value yet. Hoping for help to arrive and then I can re-evaluate my rating. So far not so good.
Almost too simple to use and program. Ties my entire rig together perfectly. Plays well with other(s) apps!! Wonderful support as well. Just great and affordable !!!!!!!!!
Thats lame paid for the app now u want me to pay an additional $9.99 even though I paid for the full app FU guys
This application has been an absolute godsend as a live musician. I no longer have to scramble between songs to select the next patch set, adjust volume, split keyboards, apply octave shifts, etc. I program them all once for each song, and reuse from gig to gig as the set changes. Huge stress reliever, and works like a charm!
If you play a live keyboard rig with multiple hardware sound engines, this software is a must have. Not just worth the price, worth a lot more!
With the Setlists inapp purchase, you can create setups and song lists using multiple iPad instrument apps. Makes playing live with my iPad MUCH more practical.
